At Varsity Spirit, our top priority is the health and safety of our athletes, coaches, employees, families and friends. We are diligently monitoring the impact of COVID-19/Coronavirus, and have a dedicated team working on solutions to support you and your athletes as the situation evolves.

Varsity All Star wants to help support you with some suggestions on ways to conduct a virtual tryout, keep athlete engagement and navigate your program through these uncertain times. As a gym owner or coach, it is important to adhere to the local guidelines of social distancing while still maintaining the welfare of your program. Be sure to obey the directives of the national, state and local government and utilize the resources provided IF permitted/as needed/and when appropriate.

Tryout BAND Group
BAND, the official team communication app of Varsity Spirit, is the best way to organize your virtual tryout. Simply create a BAND and invite everyone who is interested in trying out. Within the BAND, you are able to post all of your tryout paperwork, host a virtual meeting, and share all the materials needed for your athletes to practice in the safety of their own homes. For step by step details on creating your BAND group and for information regarding the safety measures BAND takes for youth groups, click here.

Here are some BAND features we think you’ll love:

Tryout Kits
Varsity All Star in partnership with PURE Camps & Choreography is working to  create Tryout Kits for FREE, making it available to all programs. The kit will include tryout material videos, music, document samples, tips and more separated by age group and ability. All material can be accessed online so you can easily prepare at home. More information will be available soon!

Virtual Tryout Process
If you are unable to host a live tryout, put together a virtual tryout process.  Ask athletes to provide a video submission with clear outlined requirements by a designated date. You could use Youtube, Skype, BAND or another method to allow athletes to audition live.

We’ve put together a FREE and simple way for athletes to submit videos safely along with a step by step guide on how to host your virtual tryout. Learn how to:

  • Create a personalized Virtual Tryout Form
  • Teach athletes to safely upload videos
  • Collect information & tryout videos from your athletes
  • Export submissions and easily pass to your staff
