3 Programs Recognized for Greatness

Greatness is not measured by the amount of trophies you receive, but by the amount of lives you impact.

At certain NCA Competitions, we have a tradition of presenting the NCA & NDA Go Be Great Award to a coach, team, or program who goes above and beyond to make a difference in their communities. This past weekend, NCA chose 3 programs receive this award at the Nashville and Lone Star Classics.

NCA Nashville Classic

In Franklin, Tennessee, we recognized the Knoxville Twisters for their commitment to community service.

During the program showcase this year, the Knoxville Twisters took the opportunity to turn their showcase into a canned goods drive instead of just a fundraiser for their gym. Together with parents, families and friends, they were able to collect over 400 canned goods and donate them to the Love Kitchen, which feeds the homeless and less fortunate in their area.

NCA Lone Star Classic

Down in Houston, Texas at the NCA Lone Star Classic, two programs were being recognized for the commitment to their local communities. South Beauregard Elite and Episcopal High School.

South Beauregard Elite participates in a back to School Supply Drive every August, a Thanksgiving Food Drive every November and instead of exchanging gifts at Christmas, they adopt a needy family in their community and provide gifts and food for the holiday season.

Along with food drives throughout the year, this program also provides a meal for elementary school teachers on the first and last day of every school year and raises money for their local Knight Pack Program, which provides food each week for needy children. South Beauregard Elite gives credit to their gym owner, Hali Navarre, who has a “true selfless spirit and makes it a focus to give back to their community throughout the entire year.”

Episcopal High School spends their year supporting various organizations by hosting themed games and getting involved in community events. During football season, EHS hosts a “Be our Hero Turn it Gold” game to bring awareness to childhood cancer and a “Pink Ribbon Night”, where they raised over $7,000 for a local breast cancer charity in Houston.

Episcopal also held a “Be a Match Delete Blood Cancer” bone marrow swab event, inspiring 20 people to get swabbed and be tested to become potential bone marrow donors and walked in the Candlelighter’s Walk, which is an organization providing support to families with children fighting cancer. Not only does this team have a Varsity cheerleader who recently fought and beat Ewings Sarcoma, but their head coach has a 4-year-old son currently fighting leukemia. The crusade to fight cancer is near and dear to their hearts.

Thank you, Knoxville Twisters, South Beauregard Elite and Episcopal High School for all you do to make the world a better place.
