West Advances Straight To Finals!

The Small Varsity division is bigger and better than ever this year with more than 115 teams taking the floor for a national title. West Lauderdale High School out of Collinsville, Mississippi took the mat in the Small Varsity Div. II Prelims and for the first time ever, the team advanced straight to Finals!

What Does This Mean?

Small Varsity Divi. II was split up into “A,” “B,” and “C” groups. The team with the highest score out of these groups gets to skip Semi-Finals and move straight to the final round of the competition.

West competed in Group “B” and came out on top against nine other teams. This is a huge milestone for the team and the athletes are overjoyed to take on Finals tonight.

“Words can’t express how great of a feeling it was to hear our team called out as the top team in our Prelim division and the team that would be advancing straight to Fiinals.” West Lauderdale Coach Laura Posey explained. “We are a small program from a high school of only 600 or so students and to see how far the program has come is an amazing thing to watch and experience.”

Although West Lauderdale took the top spot in their Preliminary group, the team is still looking to improve their performance in Finals and to HIT the routine like they have so many of times before!

“I am so proud of our team and their overall performance today, but we did have some mistakes,” said Posey. “We can’t have mistakes tomorrow. However, advancing like we did, I feel is a huge confidence booster and the team is more excited than ever to take the mat tomorrow.”

“I tell them to believe in themselves and believe in each other. Hit the floor with a fully focused and confident mind and they will be unstoppable.”

The Knights will run through the castle tonight at 8:42 PM ET in Small Varsity Division II. Will they put on the performance they have been working so hard for?
