Umpqua Cheer To Represent Oregon At The Quest

It’s a big year for cheerleading programs across the nation, as Varsity introduced The Quest Recreational Championship, a premier end-of-season event for Rec & Youth Cheer.

The Quest provides a unique opportunity for Rec teams and their families to experience top-notch competition while taking in the FUN!

Throughout the 2019-20 season, teams have been working hard to earn a bid to The Quest which will take place at the ESPN Wide World Of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida.

One program is making history by not only being one of the first teams to attend The Quest, but as the only team from their state represented at the championship.

Umpqua Cheer out of Riddle, Oregon, is all set to make the trip to the Sunshine State and they’re ready for an exciting weekend of competition.

Umpqua Cheer Lightning received a Paid Bid from The American Northwest DI & DII in Portland, Oregon. They will be competing in the Level 1 Junior Performance Recreation division.

Lightning is made up of 12 athletes, five of whom are new to cheerleading this year.

“Our Rec cheerleading is so vital in our community. It exposes our kids to the world of cheer and we are hoping it is building a feeder program into our Junior High and High Schools to beef up those programs.” – Tony and Shelley Martinez

Heading into The Quest, Lightning is working hard to gain the best Level 1 skills possible.

“We are hoping to add in top-level stunts for our level,” Martinez said. “Maybe some 1/4 twists and full tumbling.”

Their goal is to represent Oregon and finish in the top 10 in their division.

The countdown to the first-ever Quest Recreational Championship is on, and we can’t wait to see these talented Rec & Youth teams shine in Orlando! Be sure to tune in to Varsity TV March 13-14 to cheer on Umpqua Cheer Lightning!
