Two Teams Win The Go Be Great Award At The NCA Houston Classic

NCA presents the Go Be Great Award to programs that go above and beyond the call of cheerleading to make the world a better place. This award is presented to programs from across the country that NCA feels surpass the requirements.

This weekend at the 2021 NCA Houston Classic, two incredible programs were recognized as they received the Go Be Great award. These programs went above and beyond in their community and exemplified characteristics that show leadership on and off the mat.

The first program that was awarded this special recognition was Tech Cheer! 

At their showcase earlier this season, each team within the gym participated in a philanthropy project that was close to their hearts. 

The Texas gym had teams help and serve organizations like their local police department, the Susan G. Komen foundation, the local Women's Shelter, Treats for Troops, and other teams adopted families for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The second recipient of the Go Be Great Award was Episcopal High School who worked tirelessly to bring awareness to pediatric and breast cancers. The spirit program holds ‘Go Gold’ and ‘Go Pink’ games every year to raise spirit and awareness.

They had a record 87 attendees at their Pink Ribbon Clinic and raised an incredible $8,200 for their local cancer charity, A Shelter for Cancer Families, which provides housing to individuals and families going through cancer treatment.  

In addition, they also had two of their cheerleaders start a Cancer Awareness Club at school to bring awareness to pediatric, breast, leukemia, lymphoma, and ovarian cancers.

 “I am beyond proud of my girls and the impact that they have on and off the field,” shared Episcopal High School coach, Leigh Ann Raymond. “I am Blessed to say we have the brightest, most loving, and generous athletes and I could not be prouder to be their coach.”
