Two Teams From Texas State Take On Nationals!

The Texas State University all girl team has consistently been a contender at the UCA & UDA College Cheerleading & Dance Team National Championship, and this year the program is bringing two teams to the competition for the first time since 2010!

Spirit Program Coordinator, Jocelyn Stephens has big goals set for the program and she is super excited for what’s to come this weekend!

“Like many other DI universities, our main priority is cheering for Bobcat Athletics,” said Stephens, “and both teams share that role covering football, volleyball and basketball. Over the last two years we have been working to define our program and the roles of both our coed and all girl team!”

The coed team will be traveling to Orlando, Florida to compete in the game day division, alongside all girl who will be competing in the game day and DI All Girl division.

“The all girl team has consistently attended nationals,” said Stephens “and we felt it would be a great opportunity for our coed team to compete in the game day division and bring our pride and traditions to nationals.”

The Texas State University cheer program is taking 32 athletes to nationals, with 14 of those team members having never competed at the championship before. Stephens says they have a young program this year and she really enjoys watching them grow as a family.

“They really are a family,” said Stephens. “They work well collectively and support each other. It has been a fun process focusing on our national routines! We have two seniors on all girl and two on coed. Our all girl team has such a strong dynamic and talent level.”

Stephens says we can expect great things from both teams this weekend as they represent their university at the UCA & UDA College Cheerleading & Dance Team National Championship. The teams are focused on purpose and pride!

The all girl team is pushing their selves to reach their full potential, and to put the best routine possible out on the mat in front of their Bobcat fans.

“All girls routine theme is transition with a purpose,” said Stephens. “The skills we have effectively lead to the next element to keep a consistent flow. This team has pushed their abilities in pyramids having three pyramid sections within the routine.”

Texas State Coed is taking their traditions from the sidelines and bringing their traditions to life out on the mat.

“For game day we are excited to stay true to the elements and traditions we do at Bobcat games,” said Stephens. “Our routine is fun, engaging and natural because it is what we do on the sidelines!”

The program has a goal this year at the UCA & UDA College Cheerleading & Dance Team National Championship and that is for both teams to make it to finals!

“Our main goal is to win our routines,” said Stephens, “and to truly feel the reward of all the training and hard work they’ve put in to get to nationals. Both teams are hungry to perform in finals! We often say ‘Make It Count’ and we are excited to represent our university and cheer program!”
