Sisters On and Off the Sideline

You know that feeling of looking down the sideline or the competition mat and seeing your best friend cheering along side of you? Imagine that same feeling, but it’s your sister! Having a sister is such a special bond but getting to cheer together makes that bond even tighter.  Often, siblings will cheer at the same gym or at the same school, but not be on the same team. However, we are lucky enough to be on the same team. To us, one of the most rewarding things about having your sibling on the mat or the sideline with you is the traditions you create!

We have a few traditions that we have established over our years of cheering together. For example, we have a hand shake that we have done before every competition, performance and now at football games. This is something that is really special to us! We have been doing it for quite a while so when we look back over our years of cheer together and all those preperformance handshakes, we have memories that will last a lifetime. A new tradition that we have established, now that we have been cheering at the collegiate level, is that after every FSU touchdown we always belly bump. Yes, it is silly but its now our newest tradition! Silly sister moments like this are what make having your sister with you just that more special!

One of the many great things about being on a team with your sibling is always having a friend. Unlike a typical friendship with your teammate, your sibling may not be the friend you hang out with at team bonding events, or that you always partner up with when doing team exercises. However, they always have your back and are there for you no matter what. We like to think that for us personally, being on the same team brings forth our biggest cheerleader and number one supporter. We always want the best for each other and know what each other needs when they need that extra support.  When practices or workouts get tough, we always know when to push the other to do better or when to cheer them on when they need it! With that being said, we personally motivate each other to do better as well.  This same idea is what kept us on the same team, when ever one of us got a new skill, the other would always be even more motivated and eager to get that same skill as soon as she could! Yes, having a sister or sibling is great when you need support, but its always good to have a little sibling competition!

Though we may be twins and are very close already, we have found that being on the same team has made us closer. From all the trips to games or competitions, and all those car rides to and from practice. We have had many of fun moments which has helped us create lasting memories together! Now that we are with UCA and spend our summer’s traveling, we have been lucky enough to work all our camps together, which has been an absolute blessing. We love getting to travel and see new places together! Family and cheerleading are two very important things to us, so being on the same team is very rewarding. We couldn’t be any more grateful for all the memories that cheerleading has allowed us to create so far and we can’t wait for many more!
