Self-Care Checklist

Self-Care / self-kair/ noun: the practice of taking an active role in protecting one’s own well-being and happiness, in particular during periods of stress. In such uncertain times as these, practicing self-care is more important now than ever. Let go and de-stress with these self-care suggestions below.

Read a Book
Now is the perfect time to start that book you’ve been dying to read but haven’t had time for. Have friends who share a love for reading? Start a virtual book club! Pick a book, set a chapter check-in every few days or so and hop on a video call to discuss the book.

Call a Friend
Social distancing may be lonely, but it doesn’t mean you have to stop talking to your friends completely! Call or FaceTime a teammate to check in on them and catch up. They’ll appreciate the gesture and you’ll both enjoy being able to chat.

Stretch
Binge watching a new show on Netflix? Take time to stretch while you’re watching. This will help you stay in shape for next season. Or take time to get totally zen and practice a little yoga! Check out 6 yoga poses to stretch and strengthen from American Cheerleader here to get started.

Do Something Creative
It’s time to let your creativity soar! From writing a short story, to making up a new TikTok dance to painting a masterpiece, there are so many ways to get creative.

Play with a Pet
Take some time to go cuddle up with your pet. Even just a five minute snuggle sesh or playtime will help boost your mood – and theirs! April 11th is National Pet Day so get ready to show your pets all the love.

Take a Social Media Break
In the light of this ever-changing situation, it may seem like all the news your seeing on social media is one bad thing after another. We get it – it can be difficult to read every day, especially when you’re trying to be positive. Take a few days to unplug and get off social media. This will help you reset your mind and give you more time to do other activities, especially practice self-care.

Exercise
Let’s get those endorphins flowing! Pick your favorite playlist and get in a good workout. Even if short, you’ll be surprised by how good you feel afterwards. Not sure where to start when it comes to at home workouts? Try Varsity Fit for FREE on Varsity TV!

Do Something Relaxing
Take time for YOU and relax a bit! Grab a bath bomb, light a few candles and take a bath. Have a spa day and give yourself a mani/pedi. Do a face-mask or use a new face wash to rejuvenate your skin. Our friends at TBH Kids can help!

Make a Healthy Meal
Did you know you can practice self-care in the kitchen too? Making a healthy snack will not only taste good, but is a fun activity to do at home. We suggest starting with Buffalo Hot Wing Hummus – a fan favorite!

Write in a Journal
When you’re not quite sure how to be feeling, it can be hard to talk to someone about how you feel. Start a journal and take time each day to reflect how you’re feeling. Write down three things each day you’re thankful for – you’ll be surprised at how recognizing three small positive things each day can really bring out a sense of optimism.

Go For A Walk
It’s time to get some fresh air! It may seem like you’re cooped up inside all day so take time to enjoy the outdoors. A quick walk outside will help you check off exercise from your self-care list! If you live near friends, walk past their house and have them wave to you from the window! It’s an easy (and safe) way to see a familiar face.

Spread Spirit
From school spirit to the spirit of hope, there are so many ways to spread happiness during this time! Reach out to your grandparents or elderly neighbors to check-in, you’re guaranteed to brighten their day. Or see how you can help out your local medical facilities by making masks or donating supplies. Find out more ways to spread spirit here.

Save our Self-Care checklist, add it to your Instagram story and check off the activities you’ve done so far!
