Roll Call: Tennessee Tech University Dance Team

The Golden Girls from Tennessee Tech University finished the 2016-2017 with the program’s highest national finish! A new season is here, and the goals are only getting bigger for the TTU Dance Team! The team of 14 dancers is lead by Jordan Benedict.

Game day in Cookeville, Tennessee, is one of the Golden Girls’ favorite days of the week. The team’s game day goals include performing a new pregame routine for every football game and a new routine for every week of basketball season. They’ll also be making new improvements to sideline dances by adding new material and technical skills!

Last year was a phenomenal year for the Golden Girls. They advanced to finals at UDA College National Championship for the first time in school history, placing eighth. During the 2016-17 season, the team and coaching staff made the decision to switch divisions. Traditionally, TTU has always competed in Division 1 Hip Hop. In 2017, they competed in Division 1 Pom. The switch came with extra practices to ensure that motions, jumps, and technical skills were up to par with the new division and choreography style, but the work paid off in the end!

One of the team’s mottos is “Inch by Inch.” This saying reminds them to take everything one step at a time and to enjoy the journey. “We also have theme words for the season which include: Confidence, Accountability, Strength and Power,” Coach Benedict said. “This year our music theme exemplifies all these words.”
