Music City Takes The Floor At NDTC For Their 10th Year

The 2018 UDA National Dance Team Championship is finally here! Teams have been arriving in the Sunshine State all week long and holding their final practices to put the finishing touches on their dance masterpieces before taking the stage today at the championship.

Music City All Stars out of Brentwood, Tennessee, took a year off from the competition in 2017, but they’re back this season and are ready to put on a show.

The program is bringing five different teams that will compete among 17 different categories. Throughout their 10 years of competing at NDTC, the studio has won over 20 titles!

This year, the studio's Senior team chose the motto of "Purpose."

“Meaning we all have a purpose," explained Music City coach Kirstin Hawk. "Everyone is important and everyone matters. We think that team unity is a huge strength and helping every child remember they have a purpose, they matter, and to dance with a purpose.”

The Senior Lyrical team is adding an interesting twist to their routine this year. They are incorporating a prop to help bring their story to life.

Want to know what the prop is? Tune in to watch their performance LIVE this Friday at 4:27 PM ET on Varsity TV!

“We think our choreography this season is some of the best we have had,” Hawk said. “We felt this prop helped tell our story and hope the judges like the take.”

This season, the Music City All Star program is not only dancing for a new title. They are dancing together in honor of an unexpected event that took place earlier in the year.

“Our entire program this season has decided to dance for one of our younger dancers who lost her mother earlier in the season,” Hawk said. “This young child had to move back to Canada where the remainder of her family was and our dance family was hurt so bad.”

The Music City All Star dance program has not only shown love and support towards the family and team member, but they even collected money and surprised the family with an all expense paid trip to Walt Disney World and the 2018 UDA National Dance Team Championship!

“We are so excited that she, her father, and brother get to join us at the NDTC this year,” Hawk said. “She is going to dress out with the team and although she is not performing since she had to move far away, we are thrilled for her to be with our dance family.”

“We choose to love one another and have continued to teach our dancers how to love even in a tragedy.”

The dancers within Music City fully commit to the program. Between tumbling, ballet, lyrical classes, leap classes, turn classes, and tap, it's sometimes challenging to balance the schedule of a hard working dancer.

“The biggest challenge is simply fitting it all in," coach Hawk explained. “We want well-rounded dancers. It is challenging, but we firmly believe we are training the girls to be their best.”

Throughout their 10 years, Music City All Star has grown from one junior team to 17 total teams, and they show no signs of stopping there! The coaching staff continues to train together and attend conferences to grow and better the program for the future.

“We aim to prepare our dancers for any future endeavors in dance and show them all options they can have.”

Music City’s program is strong from the inside out, and their heart for dance and their teammates will only help send them straight to the top!

Watch this talented program take the stage Friday, February 2, at the 35th annual UDA National Dance Team Championship, only on Varsity TV.
