SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION

Scholarships Offered: Yes

Cheer Scholarship Details: All cheerleaders that make the Morehead State University Cheer Program at tryouts are scholarship athletes. Most all-girl cheerleaders receive $250 in tuition assistance per year while most coed cheerleaders receive $500 per year. Further scholarship money is available for veterans and people who excel in the MSU classroom with a GPA of 3.0 or better.

Dance Scholarship Details: MSU Dance does not offer scholarships at this time.

Mascot Scholarship Details: "Beaker" mascots can receive up to $250 per semester and have no out of pocket expenses to be the mascot.

TRYOUT INFORMATION

CHEER:

Clinic & Tryout Dates: Clinics in the fall and spring. Tryouts are the first weekend in May each year.

Tryout Requirements:

  • Tumbling – Minimum requirements are a standing tuck and running full.
  • Stunting – Minimum requirement is a full up. Elite stunting knowledge is needed.

All Girl Tryout Requirements:

All girl candidates will be required to do the following on the hardwood: entry tumbling, a sideline, and the MSU fight song. 

Each candidate will perform the following on the mat: required stunts, standing tumbling, running tumbling pass, and 10 tucks. All candidates will participate in 15-20 minute interviews in groups of 8-10.

Coed Tryout Requirements:

Coed candidates will be required to do the following on the hardwood: entry tumbling, sideline with a toss stunt, and the MSU Fight Song. 

Each candidate will perform the following on the mat: required stunts, standing tumbling, running tumbling pass, and 10 tucks.

*Landing all 10 is not a necessary requirement to make the team. However, understand that it is the expectation from a fitness and tumbling standpoint that each MSU cheerleader be able to complete 10 tucks at Summer Work Week.

Competition Involvement: Coed and All Girl squads compete at the UCA & UDA College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championship in Orlando, FL. MSU now holds 43 UCA titles since the program's start in 1988.
