Mandeville Brings Their Unique Style To UDA South Virtual Dance Challenge

The Mandeville High School dance team has been around since the mid-1980s and added competing to their repertoire in the early 2000s.

Mandeville's mascot is the Skipper, so the name of the school's dance team, Spinnakers, is the name of a sail on a boat. The team supports the Skippers at school functions and out in the community by not only performing but giving back with their time as well.

In the past, Spinnakers have placed as high as 7th in both Jazz and Pom at the UDA National Dance Team Championship. Last year, the Louisianna school earned a 10th place finish with a spirited routine in Medium Varsity Game Day!

Mandeville High Spinnakers coaches, Allie Munster Robichaux and Karleen Bouza, believe that this year’s team is easily the most hard-working and technically talented team their school has seen in several years.

"We are so excited to see what this year holds for us!" Robichaux shared.

This weekend, the Spinnakers will be showcasing their spirited Game Day routine for the first time this season.

"We love competing in Game Day because our style is so different from most schools. This is the perfect opportunity for us to showcase our individuality and stand out among other teams. White gloves and jump splits for life!" – Allie Munster Robichaux & Karleen Bouza

The Spinnakers' season goal is to medal in Game Day and to place in the top ten in Jazz and Pom at the UDA National Dance Team Championship and Robichaux believes her athletes have the drive and the work ethic to make that happen.

"We have been blessed this year with unbelievably hard workers! We poured a lot of focus into teamwork and bonding as one. It’s an all in, all the time type of year for us, and regardless of what happens or what obstacles come our way, we are in it together. One team. One heartbeat."
