Higley High Gets The Crowd Hype At USA

It's Day 1 of the 2020 USA Spirit Nationals and teams are pulling out all the stops to earn a spot in the next round of the competition. In the Medium Varsity Show Cheer Intermediate division, one team stood out for their creative cheer that captured the crowd's attention with a fun play on words.

Higley High School out of Gilbert, Arizona shined in Prelims here in Anaheim, California and their coach couldn't be more proud.

"I'm super proud of them. They have been working really hard on just consistency and working together and I think they showed that on the floor today." – Head Coach, Caitlin Large.

Higley's cheer was fun and full of rhyming words that helped lead the crowd and add some extra energy to their performance.

"The cheer is one of my favorite sections to choreograph just because they get to show their energy more in that than they do in the music sections," shared Large. "I thought about the words for a really long time and just wanted it to be fun. In years past at USA Summer Camp, they always talked about sprinkling the hype and sharing it so we thought about using that in our cheer and it just turned into what it is now."

Higley High School had a solid performance in Prelims and Large feels like they accomplished some of their goals for the weekend.

"I wanted them to hit, be confident, supportive and come together as a team and they are feeling that right now so it's perfect."
