Don’t burn out during practice!

When participating in a sport that involves a lot of individual commitment it is important to be properly prepared. Below are six steps that will help keep you from getting burnt out when practices pick up.

Get good sleep –The first step is to make sure you have a sufficient amount of sleep the night before. It is important that you allow your body time to unwind and recharge for the long physical and mental day ahead.

Stay hydrated – Our bodies are fueled off of water, which helps to regulate our body temperature. Gatorade also helps to replenish nutrients that our body loses during extensive exercise. In order to perform at our highest level, we must remember to hydrate often.

Eat healthy – A balanced diet is the foundation to good health. Making healthy choices will prolong your physical ability during practice. Eating at least 3 balanced meals with healthy snacks in between throughout the day will allow you to have the energy to push through those long days.

Be physically fit – Staying in shape helps you to keep going as well as avoid injuries. Taking the time to physically train outside of practice will help you achieve those goals inside of practice. It’s nothing like being able to push your limits. And who are we kidding? When you feel good, you perform well.

Remain positive – Keeping a positive attitude not only helps you get through the day, but your teammates as well. A bright outlook can help mask those uneasy feelings and go after what feels impossible.

Get recharged – During breaks, take the time to mentally and physical unwind. Allowing your brain and body to slow down for a few minutes will help you continue to push through until the end of practice.

Remember your love for the sport and why you enjoy what you do.
