4 Reasons Why Spirit Leaders Are Essential On Game Day

Although school this fall looks a little different across America, the primary role of a cheerleader or dancer remains the same – support the success of others and create a welcoming, spirited atmosphere for all.

The role of a spirit leader goes beyond leading the crowd from the sidelines or competing for a trophy. It’s about being a positive leader in your community and ambassador for your school or university, no matter the circumstances.

That role is so important because now, more than ever, America Needs Spirit.

Cheerleaders and dancers are the heartbeat of any school and a game day without them just wouldn't be the same. A football game without the spirit program just doesn't feel right.

As teams around the country get back on the gridiron for football season, here are four reasons why the cheerleaders, dancers, mascots, and the band are an essential part of game day.

1. They Keep Traditions Alive

Whether you're calling the hogs at the University of Arkansas or taking part in the Tomahawk chop with the Florida State Seminoles, your spirit program is the one keeping these game day traditions alive.

When the band starts to play in the stands, it's the cheerleaders and dancers on the sidelines that lead your school in their beloved traditions.

2. They Are Role Models

No matter what we do as cheerleaders, eyes are always on us. From judges to coaches, to little girls in the stands, someone is always watching you.

You become a silent role model for little girls everywhere. Without cheerleaders and dancers on the sidelines, who will these little eyes have to look up to?

3. They Are Your Team's Biggest Fans

Game day looks a little different this fall. The stands don't have that comforting roar as thousands of fans cheer for their team. Now, more than ever, your football team needs the cheerleaders and dancers to bring that familiar game day energy to the sidelines.

Whether it's getting loud for 3rd down or celebrating a touchdown, your school's cheerleaders and dancers are guaranteed to always be your school's biggest fans.

4. They Unite The Community

Cheerleaders and dancers are key to creating a sense of belonging, inclusion, and community.

They are the individuals who will keep your school or university connected during these uncertain times and will bring a sense of calm and familiarity to your family of students, faculty, and alumni.
