How to Audition:
Ready to bring your band to the Celebration of Bands? The audition process is simple:

Step 1: Review the audition requirements below and select two videos that best showcase your band.

Step 2: Upload your audition videos using the audition form below.

Step 3: Make sure your videos meet the requirements outlined below.

Audition Requirements: Spring 2027 Celebration of Bands

Submit Two Audition Videos: Your two videos should showcase your band and reflect the talent, energy, and personality of your school and community.

Video 1: Parade-Style Presentation
At least one audition video must feature a parade-style presentation and be long enough for us to see your band transition: Song → Cadence → Song

Video 2:
Your second video may feature a field show.

What We’re Looking For

• There are no required pieces or specific music selections for your audition. We are evaluating the overall talent and performance level of your group, so choose performances that showcase your band at its best.
• Your audition videos should:
  • Show the entire band moving and playing.
  • Clearly demonstrate that performers are marching in step.
  • Provide a clear view of the band’s overall performance and movement.
  • Reflect approximately 15% of the number of performers listed on your application.
  • Be recorded within the past 12 months.
• Your audition videos do not need to come from a formal performance, and students do not need to be in uniform.
• Videos may be recorded in a school parking lot, on a track, or in another appropriate practice/performance space.

*Not all bands that audition will be selected to participate.

Audition Requirements: Spring 2027 Celebration of Bands

Woodwind, Brass & Percussion:

Video Submissions 1 & 2:

Woodwinds & Brass:

• Submit two solos and/or etudes featuring contrasting musical styles or content. Your selections should demonstrate both your lyrical and technical abilities.
• Mellophones may audition on French horn if preferred.
• Selections may be performed with or without accompaniment.
• If performing unaccompanied, you may pause during lengthy rests rather than playing through the entire rest.

Percussion:

• Rudiments: Perform each of the following rudiments slow–fast–slow on the drum of your choice (snare, bass, or Quad #2):
  • Double Stroke Roll
  • Single Paradiddle
  • Flam Accent
  • Solo: Perform a solo on any percussion instrument that demonstrates your musicality, control, and ability to maintain tempo.

Video Submission 3:

• All woodwind, brass, and percussion auditionees must demonstrate their marching ability by performing the following Box Drill at a tempo of 120–144 BPM:
  • Forward 8 → Left 8 → Backward 8 → Right 8 → Forward 8 → Right 8 → Backward 8 → Left 8 → Forward 8 → Halt
• Woodwinds & Brass: Play a concert F during the left and right portions of the drill. Rest during the forward and backward portions.
• Percussion: Play quarter-note taps during the left and right portions of the drill. Rest during the forward and backward portions.

Guard, Majorette & Dancer:

Video Submissions 1 & 2:

• Submit two videos featuring previous or current work from a show or routine. Your videos should showcase contrasting styles and highlight your individual performance abilities.
• Guard: One video must feature flag work. Your second video may feature any standard equipment of your choice: flag, rifle, or saber. Please note: The Celebration of Bands performance will utilize flag only.
• Majorette: One video must feature single baton. Your second video may feature any standard equipment of your choice, including double/triple baton, streamers, knives, etc. Please note: The Celebration of Bands performance will utilize baton only.
• Dancers: Choose any dance styles in which you feel confident and that best showcase your abilities.

Video Submission 3:

• Submit a video demonstrating your marching ability while performing a routine of your choice.
• Your demonstration should incorporate a glide step, jazz walk, or strut-style movement.
• Marching Sequence: Forward 16 → Hold 4 → Backward 16 → Hold 4 → Forward 16 → Halt
• Tempo: 120–144 BPM

Video Submission Guidelines:
Once you have completed your audition videos:

1. Upload each video to YouTube.
2. Set the video privacy to Unlisted.
3. Copy the YouTube video link(s).
4. Submit your links through the audition form below.
