5 Tips for Staying Motivated and Healthy During Uncertainty

This is a unique time for millions of individuals all across the globe, but especially for us spirit leaders who
thrive in our team-based sports. It can be difficult to stay motivated through all of these ups and downs, but don’t
worry!

Although you may not be with your teammates and coaches during this unique time, you can still do your part to stay healthy, keep up your skills, practice self-care, and encourage one another to come back this upcoming season stronger and better than ever.

As athletes, we are used to being on the mat, in the studio, or on the field to help keep us on our toes and in
our best shape, but sometimes it can be easy to forget to take care of our minds just as much as our bodies.
Self-care is a crucial aspect of keeping our bodies, minds, and spirits healthy and motivated.

Here are some tips and tricks that you can practice to stay healthy and motivated both physically and mentally:

1. Keep a list of daily goals and cross them off as you go

This trick will help you feel accomplished and productive during your time indoors. Remember, it’s ok to take it easy during this downtime.

2. Keep up those skills

Use this extra time to keep up your skillset! All spirit leaders alike can maintain their skills by practicing outside at a safe social distance from others. Not only will you get some fresh air, but you’ll also be able to exercise and stay active. Did you know that exercise boosts your endorphins and helps with mental and physical health? You can follow along with the #VarsityFit eight-week program for free on the Varsity Spirit Instagram.

3. Stay connected

Thank goodness for modern technology. We may not be able to see our loved ones face to face at the moment, but we can still stay connected through our phones, tablets, and computers. You can even FaceTime your friends and teammates to prepare for your virtual tryouts!

4. Relax

Easier said than done, I know, but it’s not every day you have time to stop, breathe, and take your time. This uncertain period in our lives has left a lot of us anxious and disappointed. Those feelings are valid and human! So don’t feel bad about taking some time to meditate, watch a movie, or sleep an extra hour in the mornings before taking on the day ahead of you.

5. Stay hopeful

Know that this is only temporary. During this time of uncertainty, one thing is certain; Spirit leaders are strong. We understand TEAMWORK, We thrive through UNITY, and we prosper with the support of our TEAMMATES and COMMUNITY. Stay happy and healthy, and know that we will all be back on the mat, back in the studio, and back on the field in no time.
