The Edison High School spirit squad is headed south to Dallas, Texas, this weekend to compete at NCA High School Nationals for the first time ever.

The New Jersey team is beyond excited to debut their routines and show off their hard work at the championship. We caught up with head coach Nicole Gregoire to hear more about her team’s journey to Dallas.

"Excited is an understatement!" Gregoire said. "They talk about NCA nonstop and have had a countdown running since the summer! They are so excited to show NCA what is great about Edison High."

The Eagles have a big weekend ahead of them as they prepare to compete in Large Intermediate High School Game Day, Timeout Dance, Timeout Cheer, and Fight Song.

In preparation for nationals, the squad has been running and conditioning together to build their strength and endurance. They have also been performing parts of their competition routine at halftime of their basketball games.

Edison is also hosting a "nationals showcase" with another local school, Woodbridge High School, to showcase their routine for their family and friends. This will help the squads get their performance nerves worked out all while being able to show each other support before both schools head to Dallas.

Gregoire said the girls' favorite routine is their pyramid section, but the cheer comes in at a close second.

“I love the overall flow of the cheer this year and the way that the girls perform it,” Gregoire said. “They always look like they are having the best time and I love how the crowd responds to our call-backs.”

Gregoire has been coaching at Edison High School for four years now and after watching the team progress so much, she can’t wait to watch them take the mat at their first-ever NCA Nationals!

Tune in to Varsity TV January 27-28 to watch the Edison Eagles take the stage for the first time ever at NCA High School Nationals in Dallas.
