School Spirit: the sense of identity, belonging, and community shared by members of an educational institution.
From the playing of a school’s fight song, the sounds of cheers from the sidelines on a Friday night, to a pep rally performance, school spirit helps foster school pride. In short, spirit connects everyone.
During this time, just like during the school year, school spirit is important to bring a community together. In such a strange time, our spirit programs can be even stronger when we work together to boost morale and get as many people as possible involved in the process.
To start, we encourage you to grow your spirit programs and include anyone who raises their hand to be part of a cheer, dance or band program. Spirit isn’t limited to a number. Open your sidelines, if you can, to help create new friendships, teach students to learn and bond together and spread spirit farther into your school!
During the school year, have all spirit programs work together to further spread school spirit. Plan the perfect pep rally, then transition spirit from your gym straight to the sidelines for one epic halftime performance. As spirit leaders, volunteer together in your community! Head to each other’s biggest competitions or performances to show support and cheer on your classmates. You’ll be surprised at the new friendships formed between classmates and how quickly spirit will live in the hallways of your school, not just the sidelines at sporting events.
The power of spirit can unite not only your school but your community by involving all of those who wish to share their spirit!
