The Energizers Take On UDA For The First Time Ever

The Energizers Dance Team is excited to take on the UDA National Dance Team Championship for the first time ever this weekend.

The studio might be new to the championship but they are no strangers to the world of competitive dance. The Energizers have been a top program in the dance industry for over 25 years taking home multiple World Championship titles including two gold globes in 2016.

This weekend the Energizers Dance Team is performing in three categories, Open Pom, Senior Pom and Senior Jazz.

Founder and coach of the Energizers Dance Team, Shelia Trost, said the team is really excited to take the stage for the first time at UDA this weekend. “The talent level is outstanding and performing in the new venue will be very exciting,” explained Trost.

This weekend, only the athletes and coaches made the trip from Wisconsin to Florida for the championship. “We've never traveled without the parents before so it will be very different for them,” added Trost. “It will be weird to look into the audience without them there but the team is very excited about the opportunity.”

Trost believes the team’s strengths this year are their teamwork, positive attitudes, consistency and overall team friendship.

These strengths have helped the athletes stay positive and motivated as they’ve worked to master new routines filled difficult turn and jump combinations.

EDT's UNO themed Open Pom routine filled the new Arena with energy this morning in at NDTC. The squad incorporated multi-colored poms and costumes that featured the iconic card game's logo to bring their fun theme to life.

Every year, EDT’s mission is to create a dance that has a message and tells a story. “I think that our choreography is innovative, fun, visual and powerful,” explained Trost. “There are lots of surprises and messages throughout the routines. This year, our Jazz routine tells a story about our nation – We All Bleed Red.”

The Energizers Dance Team pride's themselves on their work ethic, determination, athleticism and their ability to build champion people. Will EDT bring home a big win tonight in one of their three dance categories at NDTC? Tune in to Varsity TV at 12:42 PM ET to watch the Energizers perform in Small Senior Pom and again tonight at 7:41 PM in Jazz.
