Rock Canyon Rocks It On Stage And In The Community!

The Rock Canyon High School Dance team shows incredible heart and spirit on stage and in their community. This talented program was honored this weekend in Orlando for receiving The American Spirit Leader Awards for Dance.

Each year, The American Spirit Leader Award is presented to one dance team with an ongoing commitment to community service, outstanding school athletic support, creative spirit raising activities, and strong academics.

The Jaguars' standards are to provide students with successful, meaningful extracurricular experiences, high academic achievement, and representation at all athletic events all to create a spirited community. The Rock Canyon pom team shows that spirit doesn’t just happen . . . it must be built.

Today, RCHS brought that same spirit to their amazing performance in the Medium Varsity Pom Division Finals! This team is led by head coach Christina Leone, who has been standing by her team's side for 14 years here at the UDA National Dance Team Championship

Leone works hard to prepare her girls in many areas to take on such a prestigious competition. The girls practice multiple times a week gearing their focus on perfection and execution in their skills. Yet coach Leone ensures that coming into Nationals, her teams are not only physically prepared but mentally as well. The entire month prior to the competition the girls write in a daily journal to reflect on their struggles and their triumphs. This helps the girls release any tension and come to the competition with their most positive energy.

This coaching staff also has a fun nationals tradition to get the girls excited for the weekend. The night before the competition they host a final practice, and during this practice, the coaches perform a section of the routine for the girls. This is something the veterans always look forward to as it becomes a fun tradition for the rookies to be introduced to!
