Memphis Pride Hopes To Make The Climb At NDA All-Star

The Memphis Pride Dance Team is an up-and-coming dance studio that’s hoping to make a big splash this weekend at NDA All-Star Nationals.

Memphis Pride is bringing two teams to Texas for the championship, Senior Small Hip Hop and Senior Large Hip Hop. The team is hoping to win its first major titles and a bid to the world championship.

“Our style is fun, upbeat, energetic hip hop," head coach Candace D. Wright said. "Functioning out of a top cheer gym, we have a lot of girls with cheerleading backgrounds. We like to incorporate similar styled acrobatics, lifts, and stunts in our routines. I would say that's one of our biggest strengths.”

What To Expect This Weekend?

Wright is excited to show off her team’s unique choreography this weekend. Memphis Pride’s Senior Small team is dancing to a speech called "Keep Climbing" by motivational speaker William Hollis. They’re hoping the message brings a powerful statement to the audience that everyone can relate to. 

“The message in the speech talks about not giving up, focusing on your goals, and pushing yourself until you reach the top,” Wright said. “We hope it's a powerful performance with an awesome message for each and every competitor.” 

Their Senior Large team has a Lil Jon-themed routine. 

“Lil Jon is the 'King of Crunk' so we hope to bring that fire to each performance,” Wright explained.

After only six seasons, the program is hoping to make a name for themselves with a big win this weekend at NDA All-Star. Tune in to Varsity TV this Saturday at 5:03 PM CT to watch Memphis Pride's Large Hip Hop and again at 8:15 PM CT to cheer on their Small Hip Hop team.
