Trinity Valley Community College has always been known for its standout cheerleading program, and the squad turned even more heads in April at NCA College Nationals when it unseated seven-time reigning champion Navarro College. Winning its 10th title in school history and beating out the defending champs was no easy task, but the Cardinals made it happen.

Both of these junior college programs are known for their cheerleading programs. In fact, when high school cheerleaders start choosing their college, it’s no secret that these two schools are often at the top of their list.

Trinity Valley is led by head coach Khris Franklin and assistant Vontae Johnson, both well-established and experienced coaches. The 2016-17 large coed team consists of 34 members, 14 of whom are veterans to the team. In the junior college division, you need your seasoned vets to snag the top spot, since historically JUCO has been the top scoring division at the championships. Everyone knows to watch for TVCC and Navarro to bring their best, and the pressure will be on this year with a new defending champion.

Although the Cardinals have a long road ahead of them leading into competition season, Johnson said one of the primary goals of the team lies beyond the mat.

We aim to create a team cohesiveness that allows the people on the team to remain close friends for years to come.

It’s goals and values like this that build strong programs and strong teams. Keep it up Cards — we’ll be on the Band Shell cheering you on!
