Bring Your ‘A’ Game To The Classroom

As a cheerleader, you work hard at practice to excite the crowd on Friday nights and score big at competition. Now that school’s back in session, don’t forget to take all of that hard work and spirit, and bring it to the classroom!

Set “A” Good Example

You can’t spell cheerleader without leader. As a leader of your school, the eyes of students, teachers, coaches and parents are constantly on you. Students look to you as role models, and your coaches and teachers expect that you set a good example for fellow students and represent the school in a positive light.

Like it or not, your grades reflect on your squad and are a measurement of your work ethic. Whether you are cheering or studying, make your efforts pay off! You don’t have to choose one or the other; you can excel at both.

“B” on Top of Your Schoolwork

Most schools enforce strict academic rules when it comes to their student-athletes. You usually have to maintain a certain GPA to be eligible to cheer. If you are repeatedly ineligible, you could even be forced off of the squad.

Poor grades don’t only hurt you; they hurt your teammates. Imagine if someone from your stunt group couldn’t cheer because he/she was ineligible. If you have a game or competition coming up, your team will have to rework its entire routine, which can be very stressful. Be responsible for your schoolwork and show your teammates that they can depend on you.

“C” Your Future

If you dream of being a college cheerleader, you’ll need more than excellent cheerleading skills. You first must have the grades to get accepted. Once you get in, maintaining a certain GPA is required to be able to cheer.

Cheering in college is a big commitment, much more so than in high school. Between practices, games, pep rallies, competitions and other team commitments, you might find yourself lost in a world that revolves around cheer. But just as you work hard to master new stunts and tumbling skills, it’s important that you bring that same focus and energy to your academics.

Your grades now will impact your future in cheerleading and school. Aspire to be a winner on the field and in the classroom by bringing your “A” game to all facets of your life!

Good luck this school year!
