ICU World Cheerleading Championships: An Inside Look

Next week, the world’s most talented cheerleaders will travel to Orlando, FL to compete in one of the world’s most highly esteemed events: The International Cheer Union World Cheerleading Championships. Whether you’re a seasoned supporter or a first time fan, Varsity.tv has all the answers to any questions you may have about this prestigious event. 

1. What is the ICU?

The International Cheer Union is the recognized world governing body of cheerleading. Established in 2004, it is made up of 105 member National Cheer Federations and over 3.5 athletes worldwide, many of whom travel to compete at the annual ICU World Championships. 

2. Which countries will be represented at the championships?

Teams from all across the globe will send teams to the ICU World Championships. This year’s line up includes Australia, England, Japan, Haiti, South Korea, Canada, Italy, Peru, and so many more! For a complete list of this year’s competitors, visit www.cheerunion.org

3. Will the U.S. National Team be there?

Absolutely! The United States will send Coed and All Girl teams to the ICU World Championships. Both teams are comprised of the most talented cheerleaders in America. The members of the U.S. National Teams come from all across the nation and represent the very best in American athletics. 

4. What sets this championship apart from others?

This championship provides athletes worldwide the extraordinary opportunity to represent their country in a one-of-a-kind setting. At the ICU World Championships, athletes have the extraordinary opportunity to learn about and share each other’s traditions and customs.
