Virtual Competition Information

How does it work?

Our filming schedule allows your program the flexibility to film during your regularly scheduled practice time, no need to make changes. Once routine videos are filmed, they will be uploaded to Varsity TV. There is no need to purchase additional equipment or internet services for your program – simply film on your phone or available camera! A UDA certified judging panel will score the routines in our Simple Score system. Score sheets and division breakdowns will be emailed to coaches, just like at an in-person event. The event will then be available to watch on–demand on the event date on Varsity TV.

How will I upload my routine video and watch the Virtual Competition?

Registered teams will receive the PDF form needed to record each routine. The Monday of the event, teams will receive an email with a link to the applicable Varsity TV video uploader. Once this information is sent, teams will record their video and submit it, following the uploader steps provided.  That weekend routines will be available to watch for all subscribers on Varsity TV. UDA Certified Judges will score routines in our Simple Score system and teams will receive standard score sheets and feedback. Awards will take place on Sunday, on Varsity TV.

What is the Recording Template?

In order to make sure your routine is scored correctly, please include the following template when filming.

How much does it cost to participate in a Virtual Competition?

The price is $32 per person for 2 routines.  There will be a $20 per dancer charge for the third performance. College Dance teams will pay a flat fee of $250.

Overall Champions will be named for each division. Champions will be awarded a Banner that will be mailed following the event.

How do people watch the event?
Varsity TV will host this event. All Varsity TV subscribers will be able to watch the event in its entirety. The awards will be FREE to all viewers on Varsity TV on their scheduled date.

What kind of video do I need to submit?
Teams must submit a video recording of their routine taken in their practice facility, using a template provided. Videos must be one take – edited footage will not be accepted. All 4 corners of the floor should be visible when possible and athletes must perform on a safe surface. The program must own rights to this video and consent to it being posted on Varsity TV for use in the UDA Virtual.  Once routine videos are filmed, they will be uploaded to Varsity TV. There is no need to purchase additional equipment or internet services for your program – simply film on your phone or available camera! Be sure to check out our Filming Guide document for recording tips!

What should my team wear?

Teams may submit videos in their practice wear or uniforms.

How will teams be scored?
Once routine videos are filmed and uploaded to Varsity TV, a UDA certified judging panel will score the routines in our Simple Score system. Score sheets and division breakdowns will be emailed to coaches, just like at an in-person event.

Where can we watch the awards?
Awards for each Virtual Competition will be hosted on Varsity TV and will be FREE to all viewers on their scheduled awards day.

Routine Video Filming Guidelines

It is important that your video is submitted properly. Correct uploading of your performance will allow judges to critique you in the best way possible. Like a normal competition, we want this performance to be fresh and perfected! Show us your best!

  • All routines must be recorded specifically for your event. Videos from previous competitions or events will not be accepted.
  • Routines can be recorded with any camera, phone, or device you choose that can capture high-quality video (Nikon, Sony, Canon, GoPro, iPhone Devices, Samsung Devices, etc.).
  • Videos MUST be filmed wide-framed, horizontal, landscape. NO VERTICAL, TALL VIDEOS.
  • Performances should not be edited.  It needs to be a single shot, and not edited from multiple takes.
  • While filming, cameras must be held still at a wide-angle. Do not move the camera or make adjustments to capture dancers while they are moving. Tripods are recommended.
  • Make sure your video has good lighting and clearly showcases the dancers.
  • The music must be LOUD and clearly heard in the recording of your video. We recommend holding your speaker directly next to your phone or camera.
