Mustangs, yell red and blue! Kick ‘Em SMU!

If you find yourself on the sidelines at Southern Methodist University, you will definitely have the privilege, nay, the pleasure of witnessing the Kick ‘Em Pony in action.

Bright red, and perfectly positioned in the center of the formation, the SMU Mustang can be found kicking the way to victory on game days. Coach of the SMU Spirit Squads, Tiffany Fettinger was one of the lucky cheerleaders to hold the kicking sign during performances in her SMU cheerleading days.

The kicking pony is our favorite prop. It really is one of our favorite things to incorporate into game day. Especially at camp – the teams and fans just love it. – Tiffany Fettinger

The pony prop has been kicking strong since 2004 and even made the trip to Daytona Beach, Florida with Tiffany when she competed to perform in the 45 second Game Day competition.

Last April, SMU made the trip to Daytona Beach again and brought home the NCA Title in Division 1 Intermediate Small Coed! Due to the fragile nature of the prop, Kick ‘Em sat this one out, but can be expected to make continued appearances on game day.

Hand Crafted by former cheerleading coach, Zac Brannon, the sign sensation is now an important part of SMU spirit. What’s all the hype about the little red horse sign? Well — it’s the small pieces of tradition like the Kick ‘Em Pony that make game day so special.

Go Mustangs!
