US National Team Tryouts! By: Ryan Martin
Do YOU have what it takes to be a WORLD CHAMPION? USA Cheer is currently accepting applications for the US National Team 2013. Don’t miss the chance to represent your country at the highest level of competition and work with the BEST cheerleaders in the nation!
As a member of the US National Team 2011 and 2012, I can honestly say that this is one of the greatest experiences I have ever had. It’s a chance to make friends and work side-by-side with some of the most talented athletes and coaches in the cheerleading world. Not only did USA Cheer give me a chance to work with people from NCA schools, but it also gave me the opportunity to compete on the same mat with people that I have looked up to and competed against for years! It was such an honor to be able to be on the same team as them for once!
Learning and performing some of the hardest skills in the WORLD means even more when you look down and see “USA” on your chest. I have been competing for years on the blue mat down in Orlando, but I have never been so overwhelmed with pride and joy when I wear the Red, White, and Blue. Representing your country is something entirely different because it’s evident that EVERY other country looks to us as the model for cheerleading. They all want to take pictures and trade shirts just to say they met some of the US National Team cheerleaders. It’s hard not to tear up just a little when I think about that!
If you think you have what it takes to represent your country this year, fill out an online application BEFORE JANUARY 4, 2013. Tryouts will be held at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports on January 21. The tryout process is similar to most of the college tryouts I have been a part of. For the Coed and All-Girl team each person will need to perform:
- Standing tumbling (standing tuck, two backhandsprings and a full, etc.)
- Running tumbling pass (round off backhandspring full or more)
- Twisting stunt (full up, 1 1/12 up, double up)
- Flipping stunt (rewinds, backhandsprings, fronthandsprings, etc.
- Double down (from any body position)
Each person must also be able to sit through an interview and answer a few simple questions about why you want to be on the US National Team! As a member of the team, it’s important to remember that you’re not just representing yourself-you also represent our country! All applicants must be able to answer a few questions that show you are capable of being an ambassador to your country. Just like any other tryout, make sure you look the part! Girls need to have on make up, ribbons, and wear something nice and neat that doesn’t look like you just rolled out of bed. Guys need to be clean shaved and gameday ready!
If you think you have what it takes to be a member of the US National Team 2013 fill out an application NOW! We will see you in January. GO USA!
